As part of its mission to provide teachers access to innovative resources, Golden Apple offers workshops and seminars that bring successful teaching methods alive. Our offerings for the summer of 2008 include Science and Storytelling. The workshops encourage teachers to attain ever-higher levels of excellence.Science Workshop
Now in its 18th year, the Golden Apple Summer Science Workshop offers elementary and middle school teachers a rich, fun-filled week of inquiry based science, complete with activities and resources for your classroom. This year's workshop runs from June 23 to June 27 at Benedictine University. Learn engaging ways to tie classroom instruction to the Illinois State Goals for Science. Storytelling Workshop
Join teachers from around the Chicago area at the Chicago History Museum and the National Museum of Mexican Art to learn how to create and tell stories within the context of Mexican culture and history. This two-week workshop is particularly recommended for teachers who work with students of Mexican heritage and want to use their students' cultural background to engage them in reading, writing, social studies and art, among other subjects. The workshop runs from July 7 through July 18 and is for all PreK-12th grade teachers and librarians.Registration is now closed. CORE
CORE, the Center for Ongoing Renewal and Enrichment, provides professional development and personal mentoring for Golden Apple Scholars and their colleagues who have completed their student teaching. Up to 100 teachers attend the annual conference. CORE 2009 will be held July 27-31 at Saint Xavier University in Chicago. Click here for the 2008 brochure.
